A is for Alaïa

“An a-what-a?
It’s like a totally important designer.”

Thank you Alicia Silverstone for introducing me to Azzedine Alaïa, long before I knew who he was.

“The King of Cling” has come a long way from the streets of Tunisia. What I love about his clothes is the fact that each one is handmade and a work of art. The interior of his garments is just as beautiful as the exterior. The sculptor as I choose to think of him, is a man obsessed with the little things in life. And it takes someone extremely self-assured to break this relentless pace of fashion and produce clothes at will rather than at the pace of retail.

This skirt here is a “pièce de résistance” in my closet. I love its ability to be paired up or down. I wear it with crop tops and button downs alike. Beauty though lies in its movement – very reminiscent of how lehengas move and feel.

What is a “pièce de résistance” in your closet?

Crop top Alexander Mcqueen, Skirt Alaia (other classic looks here and here), Stilettoes Proenza Schouler (current obsession here)
