An Indian Summer

For Spring Summer 2015, a lot of designers turned their eyes to India – some subtly, while others drew a direct parallel. There was a heavy emphasis on embellishment throughout the collections.

We saw use of traditional patchwork embroidery at Barbara Bui on coats, pants and tees, Edie Parker’s fun play through her customizable clutch designs, embroidery details at Christian Dior and  Kaftanesque dresses that reminded me of long kurtas, Bibhu’s modern interpretation of home through his use of paneled hems (like sari borders) and finally Dries Van Noten through his mix of fabrics and graphics like goddess Kali. Since a lot of his garments are made in India – he is one designer who always has me nostalgic for home.

Did you find similarities through the shows?

In order – Chanel, Christian Dior, Barbara Bui, Bibhu Mohapatra, Dries Van Noten.
